I had to produce my passport to get some medicine for my cold.

Chris worked in Australia for ten years.

It's cheaper for me to fly to Bali than to see a  doctor and buy the medication.

Don't you have a Medicare card he asked.

I don't.

I don't have enough I.D for that.

But you have a passport.

Yes I do, I said but I don't have 100 points to either get a Medicare card or open up a bank account.

But if you are a foreigner on a working holiday, you can open up as many bank accounts as you want with a passport and you are eligible for a Medicare card.

I pay my levies for the health card.

I've not been able to use it.

So if I need a course of antibiotics, I tell Chris, I'll just fly to Bali.

It works out cheaper by about twenty bucks and I get a holiday too.

Chris just can't believe what he's hearing. He doesn't want to believe.

Australia is the promised land, for foreigners at least, I correct him.
