Hi – I'm reading "A Peculiar Profession" by Michael R. Davidson and wanted to share this quote with you.

"It was too late to go to the Consulate, so I spent an uncomfortable night on a bench in the train station in the company of several inebriated Russian gentlemen, true sons of Lenin who insisted on sharing their bottle with me. Morning found me with a foul taste in my mouth and a rumbling, upset stomach"

This is the real deal.

There's nothing that comes close.

The Berlin Wall isn't just a historical footnote, for Michael R. Davidson,

it's a prop that he uses well.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the author has crossed East and West Berlin through some hidden trap

doors.

Nothing would surprise me.

This novel is a nightmare.

There's no exageration.

No need for that.

It's chilling enough to know that perhaps the author actually experienced what he writes about.

Enough pussy footing around, would you agree.

At this stage you deserve the title of the book and a link where you can buy it.

I'd be torturing otherwise, with all the build up and suspense, right?

I'm self taught.

I read to learn.

When I'm reading a book on spooks by a spook, I'm not only learning but I'm learning from someone who has learned his trade on the streets of every major capital city in the world.
I fancy myself as a spook.
People want to kill me.
Not sure why.
So I'm always on the look out.
I pick up things, like the shortest route to the airport, or does moustache glue melt when exposed to a hot coffee.
Read enough of these kind of books, before you know it, you'll be well acquainted with the world of espionage. And it has nothing to do with Bond movies, sorreeeeey.

I'm known by a few names.
A few too many.
Like passwords, very hard to keep up with my alias.

I had bought a book by Michael Davidson.
His contact details were inside the book.
I copied and pasted two of them.
And I fired away a request.
'Sure, podcast would be good, but wait for the hard cover to be released in a few weeks.'
It was a seamless experience.
No questions of who are you, why are you emailing me.
Welcome to the world of espionage.
'This is my homage to my old denied area operator buddies,'  said Mr. Davidson.

We had made contact.

A drop had been made.

Mr. Davidson and  Vanya Vetto had made contact in the  Denied Area will be the tag line for the upcoming podcast.
In case you ask, no the Jake in this book isn't a tip of the hat to Jake Needham, another crime writer. He's the character from Harry's Rules, the first of the Harry  series.

The author has drawn on a lot of personal experience for this book.

Other things you may learn from the book, yes the author does speak Polish and Russian.
Yes, the author does live and write about Virginia in his books.
And yes, this book is about places spies should never be seen, or even heard. Yes, it's very taboo.
As the old adage goes, to be close to your enemy is to know your enemy.
There's always a bit of mischief in Mr. Davidson's books.
Think about hood, smelly hood, then hood, clean hood.
You'll get it but no spoilers for now.
